Conserva Irrigation Featured in June Issue of Green Industry Pros

Green Industry Pros recently published an in depth piece that highlights the history and success of Conserva Irrigation. This well written article goes into detail about how Conserva started and the many unique franchising opportunities the company offers.

The magazine’s profile talks about Conserva Irrigation’s 44 franchises throughout the United States and how the company established itself in the water conservation industry by cultivating partnerships with both the Toro Company and Target.

Conserva Irrigation’s Beginnings

The article “Conserva Irrigation Revolutionizes Irrigation Systems to Conserve Water,” by Angie Mellnor, talks about how Russ Jundt and Tom Olson “met in 5th grade” and have been “friends forever and business partners the past twenty years.” According to Jundt, the two men had a short foray into the irrigation space, saying “I didn’t like how wasteful the entire industry was or seemingly was. There wasn’t a lot of thought put into design or efficient irrigation.”

The pair bought the first Mosquito Squad franchise outside of the beta testing shop in Charlotte, N. C. Jundt says they brought it to Minnesota and “fell in love with the franchising model” because they could “share successes and build off of each other’s learning curves.”

At The Irrigation Association National Show in 2010, Jundt began his journey toward co-founding Conserva Irrigation. He recalled walking “in there [the national show] and it was like a kid in a candy store, and everything was all about the advent of these brand new smart controls.” After that, Jundt and Olson started to research, study, and build their business from the ground up.

Success of the Franchise

Since it started, Conserva Irrigation has finished six full seasons and boasts more than 2500 active clients in one territory alone. Jundt and Olson tested their business model in regional markets from 2012 to 2016. During this time they found success and eventually partnered with Outdoor Living in June of 2017.

Conserva Irrigation doesn’t just offer franchising opportunities where one can own and operate a business, it also provides a wealth of education about the industry. In fact, Conserva’s emphasis on sustainability and conservation is a major reason employees and franchisees are drawn to the company. “They feel great in being part of something. We all yearn to be part of something bigger than ourselves, and this is a social movement with direct and relatable products and end results,” said Jundt.

In addition to its success as a franchise, Conserva Irrigation also supports the Wyland Foundation and participates in the annual National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation. According to Jundt, Conserva “partnered with the Wyland Foundation and in the last two years we’ve donated as franchisees over $30,000, and in 2018, we’ll donate another $30,000.”
